Welcome to the lesson redesign portion of my website.
As the title suggests, I am taking an old, non-technology lesson and adding in technology to increase learning. As you may remember, I teach health education. I am focusing on my social and emotional health unit. For this new lesson, students will use Blendspace, Piktochart, Thinglink, Padlet, Google Form/Flubaroo and Edmodo.
I have created a separate Weebly for my students. All directions for the project are included on the website; there are video tutorials there for my students as well. I highly recommend you check out the website.
Short version of the Lesson:
Students will be split into 8 different groups. With their group, students will access Blendspace and learn information on their topic. The 8 different topics are: eating disorders, teen suicide/cutting, depression, goal setting, body image, communication skills, stress management and decision making skills. Included on each Blendspace are videos, website links, text, and quizzes. Each group will explore their Blendspace and take a quiz.
After exploring Blendspace, students will create an infographic on Piktochart to summarize the information they learned from Blendspace. While an infographic can relay a large amount of information, my students will upload their infographic onto Thinglink. Here, students will add external resources (video, text, website links) that they feel their classmates would benefit from seeing themselves. Students are also required to include 2 additional resources that they accessed that were not included on Blendspace.
The Thinglinks will be uploaded onto a common Padlet website for easy access by their classmates. Classmates will then individually look over the Thinglinks and learn what was summarized for them.
Groups are now experts on their topic so they will also create a 5-10 question quiz using Google Form. The link for the Google Form will be shared on their class period's Edmodo page. After viewing all Thinglinks for their class, they will also independently complete the other quizzes on Edmodo.
On my end, I will require each group to create an "answer key". With this answer key, I can use Flubaroo to grade all quizzes electronically.
Not sure how to use any of the technologies I have mentioned? That is OK; use the other links under the drop-down "lesson redesign" tab to explore all the technologies, view my lesson plan, read my reflection and ISTE standards, explore the SAMR value of the lesson and finally post comments on the blog.
A few things to note about my access to technology in my school and classroom:
We have access to desktop computers in our Media Center and Media Lab. We also have 2 carts of lap tops. For quick assignments we do in class on a more daily basis, our school is a part of the BYOD program and our students are encouraged to bring in their own internet capable devices. Most of my students have a smartphone and we also have access to 9 tablets that we loan out to groups who need them.
